Luna gave him a quick squeeze during the hug before letting go, her hands dropping down to her front pockets. When he mentioned actually wanting to see a play for once, she couldn’t help but chuckle. With every play she starred in back home, he was one person who would never show up for support. Her parents were a given, then after that was whichever friends she had that weren’t in the production already, and maybe Rylan’s mom, but never him. Other plans always came up, something much more interesting to him, and after a while Luna simply accepted it. “It’s a comedy called The Performers. Two guys, two girls in Las Vegas, crazy antics ensue.” She explained as she turned on her heels to head out the building into the evening streets.

“I saw that one coming,” She answered with a slow nod of her head, “But the theater’s not far, no worries. But seriously, you can pick where we eat since seeing a play is more of my thing. It’s food, so I’m probably gonna like it anyway, y’know?” In the grand scheme of things it was a minor choice, but to her it was a big deal— she didn’t want to feel like the whole night was centered around her happiness when it should’ve had to do with the both of them. “I guess if you spot something on the way back we can go there.” Luna looked over at him and smiled before turning back in front of her as she waited for the light to change so they could cross the street safely.

“I know what you’re thinking. ‘You’ve never wanted to see a play so why now?’ Well, secretly, I’ve always wanted to see one, I just.. I never said anything about it because of my friends. You know how they were,” Rylan said, he knew his reputation would have been down the drain if he had gone to one of Luna’s plays, “But I want you to know that I always wanted to go, and whenever my parents went, I asked them to remember everything so they could tell me when they got home,” He said.

“The Performers? Sounds pretty cool,” Rylan said and listened to finish talking, “Right, so I’ll be on the look out for some place to eat,” He said with a nod. He watched the light change and looked both ways before start walking across the road, “Do you want me to hold your hand like we used to?” He let out a laugh with his joke and continued walking next to her.

Even though they agreed to it the day before, Luna was still shocked that Rylan agreed to see a play with her, and even more that he brought it up in the first place instead of her. Theater was one of her biggest passions, one that she didn’t share with him, and though it was still odd to her, she looked up the next upcoming show she was interested in and did him a favor by making sure it wasn’t a musical. Friendship was composed of give and takes, sacrifices, and if he was willing to suffer through a show with her she could suffer through the lack of spontaneous singing.

During her wait she played around on her phone, looking through messages with her friends back home, only looking up when she heard the familiar voice. Luna grinned, sliding her phone into her back pocket as she got up from her seat to give Rylan a hug. “Yep, all ready! Are you sure you wanna go see a play though? We could always do something else, I don’t wanna bore you to death.” Looking him in the eye, she raised one eyebrow for extra emphasis on her question. “I think I picked a pretty interesting one, but y’know, eye of the beholder, blah blah blah.”

Rylan gave Luna a hug in return to her hug, “Good,” He said with a small smile, “Yeah, I’m sure, because I know you love it and I’ve never seen one before,” Rylan spoke with both enthusiasm and happiness. He was excited to see a play, that was something he had always wanted to do but never admit it, and never will. He was too ‘tough’ to see one. Which wasn’t really true. Yes, he enjoyed fighting, but never wanted to. He just always had an attitude to where he was such an asshole that he didn’t care what you said about him but if you offended him, his family, or his friends he would have your head. He took pride in his fighting, as well. He was a very power hungry person but things in his mind have calmed down since he moved to New York.

“Well, what did you pick?” Rylan asked her, “Oh, and I hope you know I’m paying, I don’t care what you say about it, either.” He said with a smile. He didn’t think it was right for the girl to pay. Even if it wasn’t a date, he was still going to pay. For their dinner, too. He began to walk out of the school with Luna, “You’re leading because I don’t know where to go.” He said and looked at her.

As the summer slowly came to a close, Luna began to realize exactly how lame hers had been, in New York at least. Back home she spent her short week catching up with old friends and acting coaches, but as soon as she made it back to the city she was back to spending her days inside watching movies, or out at the park or pool. Either way, she was alone for most of the day and as time passed, it started to get more and more dull. She was able to fix it by showing Dylan around the school and city earlier in the week, and tonight by going to a play and dinner with Rylan.

The two of them had been friends for as long as Luna could remember and went through it all together: mainly Logan’s death and the divorce of Rylan’s parents. The fact that they didn’t hang out even once during the summer was a bit out of the ordinary. Regardless, she quickly changed out of her sweats and tank top into jeans and a blouse, and slipped on a pair of her Toms that were by the door once she grabbed her money, keys and phone. Once she was downstairs in the lobby, she took a seat at one of the couches and waited for Rylan to meet her there.

Rylan smiled, he was excited to hang out with Luna. He didn’t want to go to the play, but it was for Luna. That’s what counted, correct? Luna was his best friend, and of course he had thought about letting her know how much he liked her. How much he had always liked her. Every other girl was just a cover up of his feelings of Luna. He was always there for her, no matter what. They would sometimes spend weeks at a time at each others house. Their friendship was the best thing that had happened to Rylan. Ever since Luna was there for him when his parents were going through there divorce and Luna’s brothers death, their relationship was the one that everyone was envy of. But, now that they were teenagers, how was he going to confess his feelings? He wasn’t. He was going to suffer in silence until the time was right and he knew tonight wasn’t the right night. But maybe it was? Maybe everything between them will change.

Rylan was quick to get in and out of the shower so he wasn’t keeping Luna waiting too long. He put a dark green shirt and a pair of jeans on and dried his hair. He put on a pair of Sperrys and grabbed his wallet since he planned on paying for everything. His father had given him a credit card and put an allotted amount on it every month, so he always had money. He also grabbed his fully charged cell phone and the keys to his dorm before walking out of the dorm. He strolled down the hallway going through his mental checklist making sure he had everything that he needed. He walked to the lobby of the school and smiled seeing Luna sitting on one of the couches. “Hey,” Rylan said standing in front of her, “Ready to go?” He asked her.
